Blended Online MHFA Community 

e-learning + 2 x online group sessions with an Instructor

Covers the equivalent of the 12-hour Standard Mental Health First Aid course.

  • 100% online
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to someone who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
  • Course component 1 — Self-paced eLearning (takes 5-7 hours to complete)
  • Course component 2 — Instructor-led online delivery (2 sessions of 2.5 hours each)

Blended Online Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace

eLearning + 2 x online group sessions with an Instructor.

  • Teaches managers, supervisors and individuals how to have supportive conversations and assist co-workers experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
  • Course component 1 — Self-paced eLearning (takes 5-7 hours to complete), presents an overview of mental health problems and crises
  • Course component 2 — Instructor-led online delivery (2 sessions of 2.5 hours each) for revision and application of eLearning, plus opportuntity to practice the MHFA Action plan with workplace scenarios

Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace blended course

Online eLearning + an in-person session with an Instructor

  • Teaches managers, supervisors and individuals how to have supportive conversations and assist co-workers experiencing a mental health problem or crisis
  • Course component 1 — Self-paced eLearning (takes 5-7 hours to complete), presents an overview of mental health problems and crises
  • Course component 2 — Instructor-led in-person session of 4.5 hours.  for revision and application of eLearning, plus opportuntity to practice the MHFA Action plan with workplace scenarios.

Standard Mental Health First Aid

Instructor-led in-person sessions

  • 12-hour Instructor-led in-person (face to face) course.
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to provide initial support to someone who is experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
  • Learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adults, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.
  • Practice these skills in a safe environment.

Standard Refresher Mental Health First Aid

Instructor-led in-person or online sessions

  • 4.5 hour Instructor-led refresher course can be delivered in-person or online.
  • Anyone who has completed a 12 hour Standard MHFA course or Older Persons MHFA course in the last 3 years is eligible to attend but only those who have become accredited MHFAiders in the last 3 years are eligible to do the accreditation assessment for re-accreditation. 

Participants have from 6 months before their accreditation expiry to 3 months after to complete a Refresher Course and complete the online assessment.

Conversations about Suicide

  • 4.5 hour Instructor-led in-person course.
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to identify, approach and support someone who is experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours.
  • Learn how to identify the warning signs, safely have a conversation with someone experiencing suicidal thoughts and behaviours and confidently support the person in crisis.
  • Practice these skills in a safe environment.

Older Person Mental Health First Aid

  • 12-hour Instructor-led in-person course.
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over), particularly those who work with, live with or care for older people aged 65+, how to provide initial support to someone experiencing a mental health problem or crisis.
  • Learn about the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in older people, how to provide initial help, where and how to get professional help, what sort of help has been shown by research to be effective, and how to provide first aid in a crisis situation.

Conversations about Gambling

  • 4.5 hour Instructor led in-person course.
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to identify, approach and support someone experiencing gambling harm.
  • Learn about the risk factors, signs, symptoms and motivations which may underpin gambling harm, how to approach someone about their gambling harm, how relapse might affect someone experiencing gambling harm, and how to manage your own self-care.
  • Practice these skills in a safe environment.

Conversations about Non-Suicidal Self-Injury

  • 4.5 hour Instructor-led in-person course.
  • Teaches any adult (18 years and over) how to identify, approach and support someone who is engaging in self-injury.
  • Learn the skills and knowledge to help someone talk about their self-injury, how to keep them safe and connect them to appropriate professional help.
  • Practice these skills in a safe environment.
